The 23 Fanciest Casinos Around the World

From Macau to Monaco, these casinos are the most over-the-top places to gamble on earth.

By

If the world of luxury casinos used to conjure up images of James Bond—all tuxedos and evening gowns, martinis, and champagne—the modern casino is a different roll of the dice. Sure, the glitz is still there and VIP rooms abound, but you're just as likely to see somebody with a thousand-dollar buy-in wearing jeans and downing a beer.

And now, many of the world's top casinos offer excessive extras: they boast spacious suites, celebrity chefs, and over-the-top entertainment, to boot. Take a look at some of the fanciest high-roller casinos in the world—and don't be surprised if you're dying to spin the wheel yourself.

Singapore's Marina Bay Sands, built in 2010 as a $5.6 billion property, is an embarrassment of riches, featuring 600 gaming tables and 2,500 slot machines and electronic tables, as well as an indoor skating rink, the world's longest elevated swimming pool, and a museum. Its three 55-story hotel towers—2,561 rooms in total—are connected by a roof terrace called Sky Park, with restaurants including Spago by Wolfgang Puck, a nightclub, and an observatory deck with 360-degree views of the glittering Singapore skyline. There's also an 800,000-square-foot mall with storefronts like Alexander McQueen, Chopard, Versace, Cartier, and Louis Vuitton.

Equal parts sexy and sophisticated, the Cosmopolitan debuted in 2010 and quickly became one of the most in-demand spots on the Vegas strip. While the 100,000-square-foot casino is nothing to sneeze at (it has 1,300 slot machines and a high-limit lounge called the Talon Club, above) the restaurants and nightlife are equally extraordinary. Current offerings include Scarpetta, Blue Ribbon Sushi, three restaurants from iconic chef José Andrés, plus Marquee nightclub, and Momofuku and Milk Bar.

The gorgeous Casino de Monte Carlo has overlooked the Mediterranean since 1863, with stunning details like glass chandeliers, rococo ceilings, and an atrium made of marble and gold. Citizens of Monaco cannot enter the hotel, leaving the rest of the world to place their bets on table games such as Punto Banco and Trente et Quarante, as well as American games like blackjack and poker. With a row of Lambos, Ferraris and Aston Martins consistently idling outside, it's no wonder that James Bond spent so much time here.
